Early in the summer of 2010 I invested in an Alpacka Raft with the sole goal of
reaching places many don't. After going on a handful of small excursions to and
talking to right people I was put in touch with an individual that shared the same
enthusiasm for the unknown as myself.
Unlike me he however had a plan and the
knowledge of where some of these places were to be found. Early on the 29th of
July I met up with Forrest McCarthy for the first of many adventures to come. After the coffee had been finished, and high hopes exchanged we packed up the last of
our gear and headed out find a small section of the Gros Ventre river that had
never been boated before. The eight mile hike went quickly with the hopes
and worries of what lay ahead.

The boating was everything we could have dreamed of. The level was low making it a bit boney, but for a first decent we were pleased with the rapids
and drops we were presented with. Before we reached the Darwin Ranch we ran
Ouzel falls and a handful of other small rapids and only portaged two sections. One
of of the drops was potentially runnable the other was a 30-40 ft falls into about a
foot water. The section below the Darwin Ranch had been run before, but provided continuous fun class the II-III with a class IV rapid we appropriately named
Natural Selection. We finish the trip as the sun was setting ending the type of
day we are always looking for, one I will never forget.
